A mother and her boyfriend allegedlystrangledher newborn baby boy to death while they were still in hospital after the birth.
Police were called to the St John’s Medical Center in Oxnard, California, after reports of a baby with suspicious injuries.
When they arrived at the scene, the newly born infant was in a critical condition and unresponsive.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical staff, the baby died from his injuries.
The victim’s mum, Andrea Torralba, 20, and her 21-year-old boyfriend David Villa are alleged to have strangled the little boy until he was unconscious,according to police.
The pair have been arrested for assault on a child by means of force resulting in the child’s death.
Their bail has been set to $1,000, 000.
Police say this is an ongoing investigation and they have appealed for information.
According toCBS Los Angeles, St. John’s Medical Center released a statement on Saturday which said: “While we deal with tragedies every day, the staff at St. John’s Regional Medical Center are devastated by the alleged incident.
