Conte closer to Mourinho job

Antonio Conte is edging and closing in to replacing Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager, reports say.

The Italian has been signalled to end his sabbatical by replacing Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid.

But offshore news say United holders are weighing up whether to axe Mourinho for Conte NOW.

It is claimed a section of board members feel now is the time to strike given Conte’s availability and interest in the post.

Yet others are said to have doubts whether he is enough of a ‘breakaway’ from the Mourinho era.

James Rodriguez stance

Manchester United’s stance on Bayern Munich star James Rodriguez has been revealed amid claims he could replace Alexis Sanchez.

Rodriguez has endured a turbulent time of things over in the Bundesliga under new boss Niko Kovac.

Kovac’s combative methods have not sat well with some players at the club with Bayern languishing behind Borussia Dortmund in the title race.

As a result of his rocky relationship with his manager, Rodriguez has been linked with United.

However, the Daily Post claim United are currently not pursuing Rodriguez’s signature.

The report does, though, say that stance could change.

Harry Maguire latest

Manchester United are confident of signing Leicester star Harry Maguire when the transfer window reopens in January.

United were interested in signing Maguire when the player was shinning with stunning performances for England at the World Cup in Russia.

And the Evening Standard say that, despite the defender signing a new Leicester contract, the Red Devils are intact of a deal.

They add that United are optimistic because of Maguire’s desire to play Champions League football.

The Red Devils, most seasons, can offer that.
